“It's time for us to fully confront the uncomfortable truth that in the United States, and in many other countries around the world, there is a profound existential inequality, that Black people experience, that cannot be meaningfully addressed with an apology or tidy public statement. As a society we face a challenge that must be met with a commitment to justice and equality for all who suffer under racial prejudice and institutional violence.
For my part, I promise to make an effort to celebrate and elevate black voices and make a persistent effort to think better, act better, and do what I can to influence those around me to challenge themselves in the same way, while amplifying the cultural contributions and foundational influences that Black artists have had and will continue to have on music, and the arts and society at large.”
